The 2008 R6 was a mid-cycle refresh of the 2006 design. It added the YCC-I variable-length intake, a higher compression ratio, over fifty friction-cutting changes, a reworked aluminium frame and swingarm, a magnesium subframe and thicker front discs. It also carried a slipper clutch, titanium exhaust and a lap-timer instrument panel, with a more track-focused riding position.
